SUGGESTED COMPETENCIES FOR PROPOSED TEST ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
In response to the document circulated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa on current projects of the Psychometrics Committee (8 June, 1999), the PAI noted their support for the proposed Test Administration Assistant at a meeting on 14th September, 1999. The list below is a suggested range of competencies that a Test Administration Assistant should be able to demonstrate in order to deal with routine test administration and scoring tasks. The matter was also discussed at a Society of Industrial Psychology workshop in July, 1998, where it was suggested that a register be kept of Test Administration Assistants who have demonstrated the underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes listed below. It was not clear if this would be administered through the NQF or the Professional Board for Psychology. Test Administration Assistants would not be trained to administer tests requiring psychological insight and training. It was suggested that psychological tests could be classified into clusters in order to streamline the process for recognising prior learning, since this would allow for certain generic test administrator skills to be accepted as sufficient to meet the competence requirements for a range of similar tests. The specific licensing requirements of copyright tests would need to be respected.
Your comments and suggestions on this matter are requested and will be integrated and submitted by the PAI on the 15th October to the Professional Board for Psychology for consideration by the Psychometrics Committee.
