Mission

The purpose of PAI is to ensure testing exists in the South African context as a value adding and ethical practice. PAI's activities include promoting fair assessments in the workplace, with the primary aim being:

To be generally recognised as the leading organisation in the continuing promotion of fair assessment in the workplace to which people will automatically refer for assessment expertise and knowledge.

PAI intends to achieve this aim through being a facilitative interface between the various stakeholders. Goals identified to aid in the ongoing pursuit of this aim include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a code of practice acceptable to all (refer to PAI's 2006 Code for Psychological and Other Assessments for the Workplace in South Africa).
  • Establishing and publishing criteria for test validation in industry (refer to SIOPSA's 2005 Guidelines for the Validation and Use of Assessment Procedures for the Workplace).
  • Engaging in ongoing validation studies in industry, evaluating measures of cognitive ability and potential, personality, interest and motivation.
  • Publishing the findings of such studies where they can be subjected to peer reviews and public scrutiny.
  • Defending such findings in various forums, including courts of law.
  • Codifying and publishing codes of psychometric practice for organisational application.
  • Engaging government, labour and industry to inform and promote proper psychometric practice.
  • Providing an advisory service to industry in terms of selection, development, battery construction, validation and other matters relating to psychometric assessment.
