The following list of PAI Workshops have given formal feedback:

2 April 2001, An Introduction to Good Practice in Psychometric Assessment

Kindly sponsored by Old Mutual

On 2 April 2001, Benoit Raffray and Yvette Esprey facilitated a Good Practice in Psychometric Assessment workshop for a 15-person group from Woolworths. The venue and catering were generously sponsored by Old Mutual, and we owe grateful thanks to Joan Heynemann for doing the organising. The workshop was very well received and its worth apparent. 27 July 2001, An Introduction to Good Practice in Psychometric Assessment

The PAI Workshop on "An Introduction to Good Practice in Psychometric Assessment" was conducted onThursday, 27th July 2000, by Mary-Anne Verster and Kasthuri Nainaar. The workshop was held at the Wits Business School, and by all reports was a great success. Although the delegates were mainly psychologists and psychometrists the feedback received was very positive. The course material, when initially planned and developed, was mainly aimed at line managers, shop stewards and relevant others, as an introduction to sound assessment practice and procedures in the workplace. It is envisaged that this workshop will now be taken to member organisations of the PAI for in-house delivery of the workshop material. Further feedback was for the development of an advanced course as a follow-up to this introductory course and we are looking into this matter. (top)

19 October 2007, Fair Assessment in Organisations Symposium

In October 2007 PAI was proud to host a symposium and workshop on Fair Assessment in Organisations, featuring Dr James Outtz, CEO of Outtz and Associates (USA). Held at Centurion Lake Hotel, and attended by over 90 delegates, many positive comments were received regarding the enjoyable and informative sessions presented.

Valuable contributions to the symposium proceedings were made by Professor Callie Theron (topic ?In Search of Selection Fairness and Minimum Adverse Impact?), Professor Hennie Kriek and Kim Dowdeswell (topic ?Validation Research in South Africa: 12 Years of Trends), and Peter Bam (topic ?The Latest Case Law Relating to Assessment Testing in South Africa?), as well as the afternoon workshop conducted by Dr James Outtz.

The symposium offered delegates an understanding of the issues surrounding adverse impact, highlighting the current situation and what challenges are being faced by the Industrial / Organisational Psychology community in South Africa. At the end of the day delegates left with a view of different approaches to minimise adverse impact and the fairness of different methods of assessment, as well as a perspective of how the USA has tried to address the problem of adverse impact.
